Welcome to Backbeat Lessons!

A motivating, supportive space is provided for students to explore their potential as musicians. Lessons focus on various percussion disciplines, guitar, bass, and composition; and accommodate a wide range of ages and all levels of experience.

What to Expect

The first lesson begins with an evaluation, and a chance to become acquainted.

This allows assurance that the lessons are a good fit for you, and to discuss a curriculum to match your needs and goals.

Upon deciding to move forward, we'll begin a year-long journey together!

Brandon was the Director of Percussion at Cambridge High School from 2017-2019. Under Brandon, the marching percussion section won five first in class finishes at various local and regional marching band competitions, as well as a gold division champion in 2018.

Brandon was the Director of Percussion at Roswell High School from 2009-2017, where he also directed the Roswell Indoor Drumline which, in its second year of existence, was the 2013 SAPA A Class Champions. The percussion ensembles have performed multiple times at the Lassiter Percussion Ensemble Symposium, and have also been a featured guest ensemble with the Kennesaw State University Percussion Ensemble. In 2016, they were selected as one of eleven performing ensembles to perform at the 2017 Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference in Athens, GA.

The Milton Jazz Ensemble opened for the Joe Gransden Big Band on three occasions, and was a featured performing ensemble at the 2014 Atlanta Jazz Festival.

Brandon was the front ensemble director for the award-winning Milton Indoor Drumline, who were World Class finalists in the 2011 and 2012 WGI World Championships, and Open Class finalists in the 2010 WGI World Championships.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

My daughter has taken private percussion lessons with Mr. Kunka for approximately 3 years.  She loves it and looks forward to her lesson each week.  Mr. Kunka has strengthened her skills, built her confidence, challenged her, and has inspired a love for percussion and music in her.  Mr. Kunka is professional yet fun, wonderful with kids, fantastic at transferring his knowledge to his students through teaching, very knowledgeable in all areas of percussion and quite a talented musician himself.  He is patient, highly organized and has great communication with his students and their parents!  I highly recommend Mr. Kunka as a parent, and my daughter would recommend him as his student!

Seven of Brandon’s Private Students have been selected for an upcoming Honors Recital presenting the music of percussionist, composer, and Brandon’s former teacher, Ney Rosauro! They have been working on some of his most well-known solo marimba and vibraphone pieces, and will be recording them in the next month. They also have the honor of getting feedback directly from Ney! A livestream announcement will be forthcoming.
